Uganda’s mountain gorillas can be visited year-round, but the feel of the trail changes with the rains. Most travelers prefer the drier windows — December to February and June to August — when forest paths are firmer and mist clears more often for photography.
That said, “green season” months can be magical: fewer groups on the trail, lush canopy, and the same unforgettable hour with a gorilla family. If your dates are flexible, we match you to the park sector that fits fitness, photography goals, and permit availability.
Permits sell out months ahead in peak season. Start planning early so we can lock Bwindi or Mgahinga on the days that work for your group — then build lodging and transfers around the trek, not the other way around.
Quick tips
Take these with you
- Book gorilla permits as early as you can in June–August and December–February.
- Pack light layers and sturdy closed shoes — forests stay cool and muddy even in dry months.
- Allow a buffer day after the trek in case weather shifts your schedule.
